A SOUL-LED CONVERSATION
How a Non-Verbal Child Unlocked My Telepathy:
Terri Jay’s Amazing Story
What one unexpected connection can teach us about intuition, animals, grief, and the unseen bonds that continue beyond words.
What if the moment that changes everything you believe about communication comes from someone who cannot speak?
In this episode of Just Be True – A Soul-Led Podcast, I sit down with Terri Jay, known as the “Cowgirl Shaman,” to explore the experiences that shaped her 36-year career as a medium, intuitive, animal communicator, medical and veterinary intuitive, remote viewer, and teacher. Terri’s story begins with one extraordinary encounter in an equine-therapy program – an encounter that opened a new way of understanding connection itself.
Throughout our conversation, Terri offers a grounded perspective on abilities that are often labeled mysterious or unusual. Her invitation is simple: intuition may be less about receiving a rare gift and more about learning to recognize a natural sense that has been present all along.
The Moment That Changed Everything
In 1990, Terri was working in an equine-therapy program when she met a non-verbal boy with cerebral palsy. During a therapy session, she began receiving information from him without spoken language. That telepathic connection became the breakthrough moment that changed the course of her life.
For Terri, the experience was not a dramatic performance or something she had been trying to make happen. Communication simply arrived in another form. The child could not communicate verbally, but that did not mean he had nothing to say. Terri’s willingness to pay attention allowed her to recognize a conversation taking place beyond words.
That realization became the doorway into decades of intuitive work. It also raises a powerful question for the rest of us: how often do we dismiss information because it does not arrive in the form we expect?
Taking Intuition Out of the ‘Woo-Woo’
One of the most compelling parts of this conversation is Terri’s desire to demystify psychic and intuitive experiences. She describes telepathy, clairvoyance, mediumship, and remote sensing through the language of energy, frequency, and physics. From her perspective, these experiences are not magic tricks; they are ways of receiving and interpreting information.
Intuition rarely needs to be loud. It may arrive as a picture in the mind, a physical sensation, a sudden knowing, a word, or an impression that appears before the thinking mind has time to explain it away. The challenge is not always receiving the information. The challenge is recognizing it, discerning what it is, and learning to trust it.
This speaks directly to the Reconnect and Discern stages of the Just Be True Method: first learning how your own intuition communicates, and then separating that guidance from fear, emotion, ego, and old programming. The goal is not blind belief. It is an honest relationship with your own inner language.
Animals, Energy, and Communication Beyond Distance
Terri’s work with animals offers some of the episode’s most fascinating examples. She shares stories of sensing possible health concerns in horses and dogs from a distance, including equine colic and canine ailments, and of helping people understand what an animal may be experiencing physically or emotionally. She also discusses the roles that animal chiropractic care and energy work can play in supporting an animal’s well-being.
Her remote-viewing and map-dowsing experiences stretch the conversation even further. Terri describes using energetic information to locate lost animals, underground water, fault lines, gold, property features, and even hidden problems inside a home. Whether these ideas feel familiar or entirely new, her stories invite curiosity about how much information may be available when we become quiet enough to receive it.
Intuitive impressions can be meaningful, but they are best used responsibly and alongside appropriate medical, veterinary, or other professional care. Grounded intuition does not require us to abandon practical wisdom; it asks us to let both work together.
Can Love Continue Beyond Physical Life?
Our conversation also moves into the afterlife, communication with departed loved ones and pets, and the intriguing idea of animal “walk-ins” – a soul returning in another physical body to continue its bond with a person. Terri shares her belief that spirits exist in a state of pure, positive energy and that the trauma surrounding death belongs to the physical experience, not to the spirit’s continuing existence.
For anyone who has lost a beloved person or animal, that perspective can offer comfort. The relationship may change form, but love does not simply disappear. A familiar feeling, dream, sign, memory, or quiet inner knowing may become a different kind of conversation.
Grief, Love, and Making Space for Connection
Terri uses a striking image when she talks about remaining trapped in prolonged sorrow: it can become like “picking a scab.” The wound never has an opportunity to soften because it is continually reopened.
This is not an instruction to rush grief, suppress pain, or pretend that loss does not hurt. Grief has its own timing, and every person’s process is different. The deeper invitation is to notice when mourning has become the only way we allow ourselves to remain connected. If our loved ones exist in love rather than suffering, Terri suggests that remembering them through gratitude, joy, and celebration may create a gentler space in which connection can be felt.
We do not honor love only through pain. We can honor it by continuing to live, by speaking the person’s or animal’s name, by sharing the stories that make us smile, and by allowing the bond to become a source of warmth rather than only a reminder of absence.
What Gets in the Way of Clear Knowing?
Terri returns several times to the role of ego and fear. When we are desperate for a particular answer, afraid of being wrong, or determined to prove something, we can unintentionally crowd the signal. Clear intuitive information often arrives simply. It is the mind that adds the argument, the fear, or the need for certainty.
Learning to trust intuition does not mean believing every thought. It means slowing down enough to observe how information feels when it arrives, checking it against reality, and gathering evidence over time. Trust grows through relationship and practice.
A Few Questions to Sit With
When have I known something before I could explain how I knew it? Notice the experience without trying to prove or dismiss it.
How does intuition feel in my body compared with fear? Pay attention to pace, tone, tension, and repetition.
Where might I be expecting guidance to arrive in only one form? Consider images, sensations, dreams, words, synchronicities, and quiet knowing.
What helps me become calm, grounded, and receptive? Create a simple practice that makes space for listening.
The Invitation: Stay Curious
You do not have to communicate with animals, practice remote viewing, or become a professional medium to begin honoring your intuitive nature. You can start by noticing the small moments when your inner guidance speaks – and by becoming curious enough to listen before automatically giving your power away to doubt.
Terri’s story reminds us that communication can move through more channels than words, connection can reach farther than distance, and love may continue in ways we do not yet fully understand. The episode does not ask you to accept every idea without question. It asks you to remain open to the possibility that life is communicating with you in more ways than you realize.
